All escouades of the 22e demi-brigade de ligne assembled in Porcia in Northern Italy. We had a reason to celebrate: our epaulets were finally - finally ! - ready and could be distributed !

Happy with our new epaulets, the German grenadiers gathered again just one week later, at Großgörschen.
Four days of drill, marching, reconnaissance and skirmishes, in the plains, in forests and in villages, amongst the friendly and hospitable inhabitants of the Champagne.

In the first skirmish we turned our enemies' left flank by climbing uphill, forcing them to retreat. The reward was a beautiful view over the valley from their former, now our, position. |

On we went, and after a small rest we could test our skirmishing skills in the forest. Our shadows were in good bearing. |
